Free Event for All

Forest YMCA is inviting local residents to an event at their main site in Walthamstow on Saturday 14 September, to celebrate 44 years of their sports facilities in Forest Road and to mark a new chapter in their history as they pave the way for a new, bigger and better leisure and fitness centre.

Date: Saturday 14 September 2013
Time: 10am - 4pm
Place: Forest YMCA, ,
Price: FREE!

There will be loads to do, including a bungee run, goal shooter challenges, prize draw, music, dancing, massage, physio MOT and a chance to try your hand at sports and exercise classes like zumba and belly dancing. What's more, all activities will be FREE of charge!

Everyone is invited to come along and meet their new mascot - Bushy the squirrel - and join in the celebrations.  It will be a fun event with a 70's and 80's theme - so why not dust off those leg warmers, platforms, sweatbands and flares! It will also be a chance for you to be part of Waltham Forest's history by including something in a time capsule we will be burying for future generations to find.

Timothy Pain, Chief Executive Officer, says "Our sports hall opened in 1970, and since then hundreds of people have used the facility for all sorts of activities, from squash to badminton to basketball to table tennis. It will hold fond memories for many people, and we felt that we couldn't demolish it without commemorating its many years of service. This is all part of our commitment to provide people within our community with affordable, modern health and fitness facilities. We will be launching our new state of the art gym in May followed by new functions rooms and sports hall in August 2014 - so watch this space!'
